The Town of Lincoln is accepting resumes and applications for the position of Full-time Firefighter/Engineer. NATURE OF WORK: This full-time position is responsible for general firefighting work, with an emphasis on the operation and maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment. This work, as well as the maintenance of quarters (Fire Department areas) is performed under the direction of the Public Safety Director or his/her designee, such as, the Deputy Fire Chief or a full-time Fire Captain. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Protects life and property through the performance of firefighting activities. These activities include fire extinguishment, ventilation, search, rescue, salvage, overhaul, water supply and other related subjects. Operates and performs operator level maintenance on fire apparatus. This currently includes two engines, one engine-tanker, an aerial ladder truck, ambulances, a boat, and a utility / light rescue vehicle. Operates and maintains firefighting equipment, such as axes, chainsaws, portable pumps, self-contained breathing apparatus, generators, ventilation fans and several types of hand tools. Assumes command of emergency incidents until first fire line officer (Lieutenant or above) arrives on scene, or as a situation requires. Studies and practices current firefighting and rescue techniques. Prepares pre-fire plans and conducts fire safety inspections for buildings within the Town. Assists in the training of other firefighters while on-duty. Possession of a valid Maine Driver’s License is an essential job function of this position. PERIPHERAL DUTIES: May be assigned additional responsibilities such as Fleet Maintenance Coordinator, Training Officer, Communications Coordinator, Pre-Plan/Inspection Coordinator, Equipment Maintenance or Technology Maintenance. Also assists with fire prevention and training activities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: (A) Graduation from High School; and/or GED, (B) Certified Firefighter I or Firefighter I/II; and, (C) Certified Pumps I, or Pumps I/II, or Basic Pump Operator; and, (D) Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator; and (E) Certified Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (Per Contract) Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (A) Working knowledge of modern firefighting principles and practices (B) Working knowledge of fire service hydraulics (C) Ability to communicate clearly under many different conditions (D) Skill in the operation of the listed tools and equipment. (E) Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition; Ability to accurately record and assist in the maintenance of records. (F) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public. (G) No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years. The full job description is attached.
